Engineering Notebook of Design Gamma

Ornithopter Project

[PROJECTS]

In this phase, I designed & tested multiple different configurations for power transmission before reaching the final version.
-Design Gamma:
With the lessons from the past two versions, I decided to directly connect the wings to the servos, thereby reducing power loss during transmission. I also redesigned the wing structure to be fan-shaped, increasing structural integrity.
The wing design was also proven to be too flexible, this became one of the key issues I sought to resolve in the next version.
-Design Beta:
For the next version, I decided to design a crank-linkage mechanism for power transmission. Although the components were designed to be strong enough using SolidWorks, the mechanism was too complex and provided insufficient power transmission. Therefore, I eventually abandoned Design Beta as well.
-Design Alpha:
I utilized a motorless configuration commonly used in similar aircraft models on the market, which used a rubber band to supply power. After testing, I found that the 3D-printed components were too fragile for continuous flight.
